Fire Resistive Construction Design, Consultation and Testing

Mr. Slifka has been called upon to consult on fire resistive floor/ceiling and wall assemblies primarily used in the manufactured (modular) housing industry. He has conducted and/or witnessed fire tests (ASTM E119) of these assemblies or has performed engineering analysis of the expected fire resistive rating of the assemblies when questions have arisen from the local/state building officials. He has also consulted on the fire protection design of many significant structures around the United States (see High Rise Construction and Large Scale Complexes.)

  • At both PFS Corporation and Radco/Avalon Associates, provided third-party testing, listing and certification programs focused on building components, products, and transportable structures (mobile, modular, and commercial coach buildings).
  • At PFS Corporation and Radco/Avalon Associates, oversaw the running of a nationally accredited test laboratory for fire safety, electrical testing, gas fired and wood burning fireplaces and heating appliances, and structural testing.

Michael J. Slifka, P.E.
